Fear Of Flying Course
What happens?
The Fear of Flying Course – Full Motion Simulator option starts in the briefing room. There are a few comfortable rooms available.
In the briefing room your instructor will explain how the course works and will check what YOU would like to cover. The course will very much be tailored your needs.
60 minutes is allocated to talk through your concerns, you will likely find it useful to ask questions about air travel, the aircraft and safety measures. Your instructor though will be forming an idea as to how to sculpt your time in the simulator to be as useful as possible to you.
If you decide to share your classroom time with someone else, as up to two people can be part of the course … we would suggest only doing so if you both have similar fears. Otherwise there may not be enough time to help you both fully.
Next you will be led to the B737 NG full motion flight simulator. The cockpit you step into is an exact replica of the real thing. Every button and switch does something within the confines of the virtual reality you will be subject to. Pilots train in these £15 million machines and the have to be as close to the real thing as possible.
The time in the simulator is yours so if you wish to have a look around and ask questions before take off … that is fine with us. When you are ready to go though, start-up procedures will begin and you will see exactly what is done to ensure maximum safety.
You have the option to sit behind the pilot/instructor or you can sit in the co-pilot’s chair. The latter will give you a far better view for what is being done to control the aircraft. You have an hour though so if you wish to swap between that is acceptable.
During the 60 minutes (for one person) and 90 minutes (for two people) in the simulator we like to keep the lines of communication open. Ask questions, explain any concerns to the flight instructor and let them know how you are feeling. If you are confident or have specific conditions that make you uneasy you may want to try them at this point.
Rain, Snow, High Winds and in the Full Motion Simulator … Turbulence! They can all be experienced without leaving the ground.
You may find that you are feeling comfortable enough to take to the controls yourself … the time in the simulator is yours so swap seats with the instructor if you wish to and they will explain how you can control the aircraft. If you are practically minded you may prefer this approach.
Once the simulator time is up it’s back to the briefing room where you have up to 30 minutes to discuss the experience and anything that might have come to mind.
You may have questions pop up after the experience. Not a problem! We are on hand to answer via email or phone. Our track record for helping people is brilliant, please see our testimonials.
In fact, we like to keep in touch and love to hear of your successful flights after the Fear of Flying Course – Full Motion Simulator option. If you do have a “moment” where you need additional help in the run up to your flight … our instructors are more than happy to be available to talk to you. We will try our best to not only get you on the flight but have you get as close as possible to enjoying it!
